Community Apple Pressing Day
On the 17th October 2015 we held our first apple pressing day using a manual apple press and scratter. We estimate that we produced around 80 litres of apple juice which was drunk or turned into cider.
Our second apple pressing day was the 16th October 2016 and we decided to take advantage of the Industrial Revolution and hired a hydraulic press with an electric scratter. The manual press and scratter were also available; they didn’t get taken out of the boxes. In around half the time of the previous year with around the same amount of apples we produced over 100 litres of apple juice.
Apple pressing day 2017 was held on the 15th October 2017 from 1100 until 1530 at Hornsmill Community Centre. We didn’t hire a manual press and have decided to stick with post industrial revolution technology….
Bring along your apples, spend some time pressing and make sure you bring buckets/receptacles to take home apple juice. Yeast will be available on the day as will advice on cider making
